Rheo

We want Highlanders to experience Jesus’ way every day. Rheo is a new four-week course that helps them do this. Rheo means “flow” and it reminds us how Jesus intends our relationship with him to flow abundantly from the heart, by the Spirit, into a life that nourishes the world around us (Jn. 7:38). Participants will learn nine spiritual disciplines as well as ways to grow through adversity and to partner with the Spirit in daily life. The class is taught in A129 by Lawana Maxwell and Chris Altrock Oct. 21, 28; Nov. 4, 11. Registration is required. Click here. $15 fee pays for the required book (picked up in The Commons beginning 9/30; participants should read first 3 chapters prior to first class).

Rheo

37 On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” 39 Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. (Jn. 7: 38 ESV)

Rheo is a Greek verb meaning “flow.” Jesus intends our satisfying relationship with him to flow abundantly from the heart, by the Spirit, into a life that nourishes the world around us. Rheo is a four-week class designed to help new Highland members and others learn basic practices for drinking deeply of Jesus and experiencing the abundant life that flows from that relationship into the world.

Participants will learn nine spiritual disciplines from John Ortberg’s book The Life You’ve Always Wanted. They’ll also focus on three fundamental ways God enables us to grow spiritually. These are highlighted by an author named Dallas Willard: the trials of life, the Holy Spirit, and the spiritual disciplines.
