Serving Others

LaRose Elementary School

This ministry is for those passionate about mentoring inner city children. Volunteers tutor, read to classes, donate small treats and snacks, give donations for school uniforms and other clothing needs, donate library books, play games and organize activities, or simply eat lunch with the children. No experience is needed - just a love for children.

Macon Hall Elementary

We want to be an active part of our neighborhood. This ministry is all about supporting and encouraging the faculty and staff at Macon Hall. Notes of encouragement, meals for teachers, regular tokens of appreciation and planned prayer time are just some of the ways we try to do that. Opportunities are unlimited at this school that has over 1000 students and 120 faculty and staff.

Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital

If you love babies and their families, this ministry is for you. Highland has adopted the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit there. Volunteers on the floor spend time helping in whatever way is needed, from holding a baby to encouraging a parent. We also have specific service projects to support the staff throughout the year. Zumba classes, pampering parties and meals for the NICU families provide other ways to get involved. Opportunities exist for individuals as well as groups to volunteer together.

Prison Ministry

This new ministry is an amazing way to show God’s love and mercy to women who find themselves in desperate situations. Opportunities to serve include leading Bible studies, becoming a mentor/encourager, and helping with social events for the women.

Children’s Clothing Sale

A consignment sale held twice a year (spring and fall) of children’s clothing, shoes, toys, books, and equipment. Consignors bring in their gently used items and in return receive 80% of the sale price. Volunteers man the sale, from putting up the racks to sorting the unsold items when the sale is over. Clothes donated at the end of the sale benefit a church plant in the Ukraine and FIT moms are given gift certificates with which to shop. A monetary donation is given after the sale is over to a charity that benefits children.
